Lamborghini Huracan GT3 EVO2 Bathurst HYMO Hot Lap Analysis

Let’s take a look at this hot lap of Bathurst in the Lamborghini Huracan GT3 EVO2 driven by HYMO.

The Track

This challenging, technical circuit can pose difficulties when configuring your car. Negotiating through iconic turns like The Dipper, Hell Corner, and McPhillamy Park demands a precise balance. Thankfully, HYMO has your back, offering the exact setup featured in this impressive lap video HERE.

Established in 1938, the Mount Panorama Circuit at Bathurst stands as one of the most iconic race tracks globally. Hosting the Bathurst 1000 since 1963, this track features a unique blend of steep ascents, challenging corners, and blind crests. It has also been a constant presence in the Australian Touring Car Championship and its successor, the Supercars Championship.

Analysis

We can use the Track Titan software to compare a community driver to the HYMO driver through Forrest’s Elbow (Turn 18). This corner is a sharp downhill left hander with a very tricky braking zone. The racing line is very important here, as is ensuring the car stays as stable as possible by trail braking.

Looking at the braking graph, we can see both drivers brake at roughly the same time, but the community driver (in dark blue) doesn’t brake as much, and they also don’t fully lift off the accelerator until well into the braking zone. This means they are carrying more speed into the corner which doesn’t give them enough space to trail brake. On top of this, they turn in late to try and get a better exit, but because they didn’t trail brake, they don’t have enough rotation to make it work. They have to slow down further to turn into the corner, and while they do get on the throttle earlier, it’s still not enough to give them a better exit.

Hot Laps Top Tips

A crucial aspect of sim racing to improve your hotlapping is throttle control. Good throttle control can help you maintain better control over your car, reduce wheel spin, and ultimately, result in faster lap times. When exiting corners, it's crucial to apply the throttle gradually, especially in high-powered cars. If you apply full throttle too soon while the car is still turning, it can lead to oversteer or understeer, depending on the car's drive layout, and cause you to lose control.

Understanding how your car reacts to throttle inputs in different situations and adjusting your throttle control accordingly is a valuable skill in sim racing. This can often be the difference between a good lap and a great lap. Just like braking, throttle control is a skill that requires practice to perfect. But once you've mastered it, you'll be able to get on the power earlier and more confidently, leading to faster exit speeds and improved lap times.
