Lamborghini Huracan GT3 EVO2 Silverstone HYMO Hot Lap Analysis

Let’s take a look at this hot lap of Silverstone in the Lamborghini Huracan GT3 EVO2 driven by HYMO.

The Track

This challenging, technical circuit demands precise car setup. Negotiating corners like Copse, Stowe, and Maggots-Becketts-Chapel requires a delicate balance. Thankfully, HYMO has you covered with the setup used in this impressive lap, which you can find HERE.

Established in 1948, Silverstone Circuit stands as one of the most iconic racing venues globally. Hosting the British Grand Prix continuously since 1987, with intermittent races dating back to 1950, the track offers a blend of high-speed straights, fast corners, and technical sections. It has also been a cornerstone of the FIA World Endurance Championship since 2012.

Analysis

Using the Track Titan software, we can compare a community driver to the HYMO driver through Copse (Turn 1). This is a fast right hander where you barely have to touch the brakes, and this is where the community driver loses most of their time.

We can see from the braking data that the HYMO driver (in light blue) only brakes a little bit, not even reaching 100% brake pressure. The community driver on the other hand brakes harder, reaching 100% for around a second. This means they carry less speed through the corner, and therefore down the next straight as well. On top of this, they are a lot more abrupt with their throttle input, meaning they have to wait later to be able to accelerate. The HYMO driver on the other hand is much more gentle to begin with, letting the car settle before pushing to full throttle. The combination of the community driver’s brake and throttle technique loses them over 2 tenths of a second through this corner.

Sim Racing Top Tips

One of the most effective ways to improve your sim racing performance is to focus on consistency. This means maintaining a steady pace and avoiding erratic driving behaviours. It’s not just about achieving the fastest lap time, but rather about consistently hitting your marks lap after lap. This requires a deep understanding of the track, the car, and how they interact. It also involves mastering the art of braking and accelerating smoothly, and knowing exactly when to turn into a corner.

In addition, consistency helps in preserving the condition of your car throughout the race. Overdriving the car can lead to excessive tyre wear and potential mechanical failures. Remember, you can’t win the race if you don’t finish it. So, practice consistency, understand your car, and master the track. This will not only make you faster but also a more competent and respected driver in the sim racing community.
