The Track

Established in 1962, Suzuka Circuit stands as one of the most iconic tracks globally. Hosting the Formula One Japanese Grand Prix annually since 1987, with sporadic events dating back to 1963, Suzuka features a blend of fast corners, intricate chicanes, and thrilling straights. It has also been a significant venue for the FIA World Endurance Championship since its inception in 2012.

Analysis

Using the Track Titan software, we can compare a community driver to the HYMO driver through Turn 9. This is a tricky right hander where momentum is key and a tighter line isn’t necessarily faster.

Looking at the braking data, we can see that the HYMO driver (in light blue) lets off the brakes, but then reapplies them slightly. This is to help rotate the car through the corner without the need to use the inside kerb, as this can unsettle the car and cause it to run wide on the exit. The community driver on the other hand doesn’t use trail braking, meaning that to carry the same amount of speed, they have to use a lot of the inside kerb which unsettles the car causing it to lose speed.
