Lamborghini Huracan GT3 EVO2 Watkins Glen HYMO Hot Lap Analysis

Let’s take a look at this hot lap of Watkins Glen in the Lamborghini Huracan GT3 EVO2 driven by HYMO.

The Track

This challenging, technical circuit demands precise car setup. Negotiating corners like the Boot, the Esses, and the Bus Stop chicane requires a delicate balance. Luckily, HYMO has you covered with the exact setup used in this impressive lap video HERE.

Established in 1956, Watkins Glen International is a renowned racetrack, steeped in history. Featuring elevation changes, sweeping corners, and challenging chicanes, Watkins Glen is a favourite among drivers and fans alike. Additionally, it has been a prominent venue for the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship since 1968.

Analysis

We can use the Track Titan software to compare a community driver to the HYMO driver through Segment 8. This is a deceptively tight left hander where trail braking is essential to getting enough rotation to make it through the corner as fast as possible.

Firstly, let’s look at the braking data. We can see that the HYMO driver (in light blue) brakes slightly earlier than the community driver, however they utilise trail braking, meaning the car rotates better through the corner. This allows them to carry more speed and be more confident when getting back on the throttle. The community driver on the other hand, doesn’t use trail braking, meaning they can’t get on the throttle as quickly, losing them time through the corner and down the next straight as well.

Sim Racing Top Tips

Let's discuss the importance of a proper sim racing chair setup. The chair you use for sim racing can significantly impact your comfort and performance. It’s not just about having a high-quality chair, but also about how you position it in relation to your wheel and pedals.

Firstly, ensure that your chair is at the right height. Your eyes should be level with the top third of your screen when you’re seated. Secondly, pay attention to the distance between your chair and pedals. When fully depressed, your legs should still have a slight bend in them. This position helps to prevent fatigue during long races and ensures you have full control over the pedals at all times.
