Mercedes AMG GT3 EVO Brands Hatch HYMO Hot Lap Analysis

Let’s take a look at this hot lap of Brands Hatch in the Mercedes AMG GT3 EVO driven by HYMO.

The Track

Brands Hatch is a famed British racing circuit located in Kent, England. Known for its natural undulating terrain, the track offers a blend of challenging corners, elevation changes, and relatively short straights. The circuit operates in two layouts: the shorter "Indy" configuration, approximately 1.9 km long, and the longer "Grand Prix" layout, which is about 3.9 km. Brands Hatch has firm place in motorsport, having hosted numerous prestigious events, including Formula One British Grand Prix in the past, and currently features in many national and international racing series, such as the British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) and various GT championships. The track is particularly noted for iconic corners like Paddock Hill Bend, a steep, downhill right-hander, and the challenging Druids hairpin. The combination of technical complexity and high-speed sections makes Brands Hatch a favourite for all.

Analysis

The analysis below uses the Track Titan platform to compare a HYMO reference hotlap in blue to one of the Track Titan community drivers through Segment 9. By reviewing the data we can see that the community driver goes wide on the exit of this left hander. To unpack why we can compare the vehicle speed graph. It appears that they enter the corner with reasonable speed (if not a bit slow). However, the throttle trace reveals they pick up the throttle before the apex, which begins to push the car before it's rotated properly. After clipping the kerb this likely led to understeer and forced them to lift out of it. They still ended up running wide and it cost 0.15s by the end of the segment.
