Circuit Ricardo Tormo is a staple of Spanish motorsport. Hosting pre-season testing for Formula E and a wide variety of motorcycle and car racing events. Opened in 1999, it is one of the newest permanent high-profile tracks in Europe and is even poised to host the motorsport games later in 2024.

Analysis

When analysing this HYMO lap against a community lap in the Track Titan platform, we can see that through turns 4 and 5, the community driver loses 0.3s compared to the HYMO driver. In looking at the data, the majority of the time loss can be put down to braking.

From the data, we can see the community driver (in Blue) earlier into turn 4 than the HYMO driver, and then brakes too much into turn 5. This causes the Blue driver to scrub off too much speed, compromising the run out of the corner. Additionally, you can see the Hymo driver (in blue) is able to accelerate earlier which magnifies the disparity in speed out of turn 5.

Hot Laps Top Tips

This analysis has highlighted one fundamental technique for competitive driving and that is trail braking. Not every corner will require you to use this technique, but the simple act of not coming off the brake in the right manner has cost the community driver over two tenths of a second.

Getting your braking technique is one of the most important aspects of hot lapping. Try different levels of trail braking if necessary and find what works best for you, the car and the track. Remember, practice makes perfect!
